2011 in Review
Total Fics: 14 fics over three fandoms (why, hallo thar, J2) with an overall word count of 145, 560 (!)
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
As per usual, I didn't accomplish nearly as much as I'd hoped to, but that's a damn impressive word count for me, so I can't really complain too much
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
17 A.W. (After Winchester)
Absolutely this one, which is unfortunate because it's definitely one of the less popular things I wrote this year. I think this is probably the best thing I've ever written, or at least the one I'm most happy with
Okay, NOW your most popular story
It's probably a toss up between At First Sight and Learn to Glow for Other's Good; the first got more recs, but I think there are a handful more comments on the second (which I will respond to soon, honest!)
Story most under-appreciated by the universe?
*points up* 17 A.W. (After Winchester). It's Supernatural AU Wincest, but you should all read it anyway. It's awesome.
Story that could have been better?
Probably my spn_j2_bigbang, To the Stars and Back. I worked really hard on this one and had a wonderfully supportive beta, but I wish I'd left myself more time to edit because I think it would have improved it.
Um, since it's the only one with sex in it, it's got to be To the Stars and Back by default. *fails at porn*
EDIT: Wait, I'm lying! I also wrote Closet Case for blindfold_spn!
Amount of fic that lurks, unposted, on your hard drive and why:
Oh god, I can't even begin to count. Way too much. Because I get distracted and never finish as much as I intend to.
Care to share some lines from an unfinished story or two?
How about two that I'm actually planning on finishing? orz
Don't Even Fix a Price
"Oh! Um." The kid started to offer his obol, then his expression went cagey. "You can have it on the way back," he said, cradling his fist close to his chest.
Jensen's cowl hid a smile. "Whatever you say. Registration's over that way," he continued, waving a hand in the right general direction. "I hope you like three-headed dogs."
Till Heaven Stops the Rain
He'd also managed to overlook the possibility that Jensen being a massage therapist would translate into Jensen giving him massages, which was considerably more skin on skin action than Jared really felt comfortable engaging in with a guy he was in love with.
Most fun story?
Hmm, With a Talent Like Yours, probably. Because you can never go wrong with wizards.
Story with single sweetest moment?
Oh hell, I don't know. That's sort of what I (try to) do in general. Jared's proposal in To the Stars and Back, maybe? Or Jensen and his feeling sharing at the end of Learn to Glow for Other's Good? *shrug* You guys tell me.
Most overdue story?
When I Wore a Younger Man's Clothes - I started writing this in 2010. Because I'm awesome like that
That I actually am capable of writing stories that top 10k and don't completely suck.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I did two collaborative fics this year! To the Stars and Back with the lovely cryptaniac and The Heart of Everything with the wonderful onceuponarhi. I have never done that before and they were both excellent, rewarding experiences (for me, at least. My artists had to be very patient with me and my slacker tendencies).
As peppervl can tell you, I absolutely hate writing summaries. I suck hardcore at summaries.
That said, the best one's probably At First Sight:
Once upon a time, a stable boy loved a prince who'd never seen him. Who also happened to be his best friend.
Oh, this is a fun one! Here's a couple of favourites:
"Do you own any shirts that don't look like the gay pride parade vomited on them?" - When I Wore a Younger Man's Clothes
Being the awesome boyfriend that he was, Jensen immediately burst out laughing. - Butter Me Up
"Stupid, stubborn man," Jensen breathed against Jared's lips, just as much of an endearment as it'd been the last time he'd said it. He shifted back and Jared found himself staring into eyes that were as green as the forest even without the protective shield of his tinted glasses. "You have no idea how worth coveting you are." - The Heart of Everything
Tintin without the Captain is like… a Thompson without a Thomson.”
Thomson nodded. “To be precise: a Thomson without a Thompson." - Together, Our Direction Is Up
Best opening line?
Imaginary Jensen was awesome - They Say I'm a Dreamer
Best closing line?
Another thing I suck at (why do I pretend I'm a writer, again?). How about this one?
Dean stared at him for a minute then laughed, a real, full bodied sound that made Sam's stomach flop. "We're going to drive each other nuts," he stated, and Sam couldn't tell whether that was supposed to be a bad thing or not.
"Yeah," he agreed, grinning. "And I think it’s just what we both need." - 17 A.W. (After Winchester)
Did you have any writing goals for last year? Did you meet them?
Write a big bang! And I did! Woot!
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
Actually finish the things I plan to! Which... is not going to happen. So, work on some more challenge comms (superheroes for spn_j2_bigbang this year!), and maybe start writing for the Sherlock fandom instead of being a shameless consumer of other people's fics
Wow, that was a lot more html than I was expecting. But it was fun to write, even if no one ever reads it. ^_~ Happy end of 2011 everyone!
